Dive In

Alright, y'all....here goes nothing. I'm holding my nose and diving in..........to the online dating pool. Y'all better pray I don't drown. I'm not a strong swimmer. Yeah, okay we're done with the swimming bit for now.

My mother has been on me about perusing other matrimonial avenues. Now, I'm not big on the whole online thing. It kind of sketches me out. That being said, I do know people this has worked for. And, as my dear mother pointed out, it's not like I'm having the best of luck with other avenues. "You wouldn't want to get to old to have children." Wow. I had no idea I was so close to becoming a pathetic spinster. I think my cousins wedding set her off. Her and my aunts have been on me and my cousin (the groom's sister) like white on rice since then. They want more weddings and grandbabies. Apparently, we're getting on in years. I can't even be mad because it's kind of funny and kind of true. We aren't as young as we used to be and there are expectations.

Of course, I do want to get married, sooner rather than later so it makes sense to try something new. After all, there aren't that many opportunities to meet Muslims of the opposite sex once you're out of college. Also, I haven't tried anything new in a while and I did make a resolution to try new things. If any of y'all have recommendations for websites, let me know. InshaAllah, I'll be making my final decision over the weekend.

Alright, here I go. 1, 2, 3...............JUMP!

peace,

Thanks for your comments over at my spot. Don't get me started on women and organization. I suppose it's a good thing my parents are in love and not an arranged marriage. Although, I have this thing where I'm organized for other people and not for myself (bossy older sister/teacher personality, anyone?)... don't want to get into that.

WHAT I MEANT TO SAY WAS: good luck with the online thing! It sketches you out for a reason. There are a lot of folk out there preying on the naiive and looking for ahem three letters any way they can find them. Although, I know of like two or three people who've done the online thing and have been married and happy. Who knows? And I hear your moms on the age thing, although I'm coming from a completely different family perspective. Lucky, you're blessed, I tell you! I gave up on the "Islamic" sites some time ago, I may revisit, I may not.

Let us know what's the deal... wa ma salaama

I tried typing in "Muslim matrimonial" into seach but so many places came up - it would be confusing to go through all of them. Ask at your local mosque and see what they say about recommended sites, I'm sure they'd have good advice. Be careful about meeting someone online, you don't know what you could find!
Does your mosque have some kind of meeting service where you can get together with other people in person? That way you can meet a whole bunch of people (who live in the area) and don't have to pay (I think)? I know someone who met a great person that way and it was good because meeting in person right away helped take away some of that cover of talking to someone online which might be harder.

Good luck!

salaam, hey i found your site through a link at roashe's blog.
anyway, i think the internet can work for some people, although i don't think i would use it personally. it's too easy for people to pretend to be something you're not.
as for sites, i've heard singlemuslim .com and shaadi.com are quite secure and reliable, although they may be uk based sites, although i'm not sure. what do you thik, would you really hate the british accent!
otherwise, i think 'liya's suggestion of asking the local imams is a good idea.
good luck!

AOA,

its good to have you back!!! About the online thing, I was extremely skeptic but at the end I also started to use it as I also dont meet many (any) muslim men. I have used simglemuslim.com, and they have it usa based aswell. ITs good in the sense that for women its completely free! So, you can use the whole system without paying a penny. But, my experiments did not last long and I have recently removed my profiles. Why? Because, most of the approaches I was getting were totally unsuitable. I was once approached by this 23 year old boy from Pakistan... Having said that, one of my very good friend met her husband via online and Alhamdulillah they are very happy.
Keep us posted on how it goes. Another site you might wanna check out is qiran.com, however, this is not free.

Well, there are some tricks to get a
prince charming with a pure heart. One such trick is spiritual as mentioned in the holy Quran.

##########
Women impure are for men impure, and men impure for women impure and women of purity are for men of purity, and men of purity are for women of purity: these are not affected by what people say: for them there is forgiveness, and a provision honourable.
##########
Sura AL-Noor ( verse 26 )

Wish you a glorious knight !

Good luck! It's a somewhat shallow pool when you get to looking for people who really fit with your values, needs and hopes. But that's okay. It can work :). God bless!

Haleem: haha Thanks!

TT: You're welcome, sweetie and thanks!

Ruby: Hives, huh?

Liya: I know! I could wind up finding a killer. I would prefer to meet someone in person but I'm giving this a try for my mom's sake.

Hima: Welcome! I hope you like what you read.

Muslimahlocs: That's a good idea.

Rosashe: Thanks, I'm glad to be back. I will remove my profile if I'm getting inappropriate responses. Not to worry.

Good: Interesting read.

Sarah: The pool in general is shallow. It's not just online. It's a sad reality of our world.

Bismillah

I think its great that you have started a blog and are exploring the process of finding your Mr. Right with the rest of the Muslim community at large :)

May Allah allow this to be a means of benefit for you. Ameen.

I would really like to encourage you to visit www.practimate.com if you aren't already familiar with our work there.

Our upcoming program is an 8 week online seminar called "Find Your. Mr. Right, " (and we had two free pubic webinars recently, that you can still get the replays for as well.)

Check it out, and I'd love your feedback. - Megan :)
