Talk about a sign!

Guess who I had breakfast with yesterday? That's right, the Marine. Probably couldn't have asked for a bigger sign than him showing up right behind me at Panera Bread. I was waiting for them to double toast my bagel and heard "hey gorgeous." Naturally, I looked up and there he was. We started making small talk until our food was ready. Then he's all "have breakfast with me." I smiled, rolled my eyes a little and said (slightly sarcastically), "well, since you asked so nicely." So he laughs and says, "just shut up and have breakfast with me. You know you want to." I started laughing. I was like, "you're so bossy!" We ate and when we were done he goes (all cocky like he knows the answer), "should I take this as permission granted?" I said, depends on what you want. He was all, "you know what I want." Of course, I said yes. And he tells me not to make any plans for next weekend. I'm like what if I already have plans? He goes, "cancel them." I said, "you're pretty sure of yourself." He said, " I know what I want and I'm not afraid to take it." Ladies, that's hot. I was just a teensy bit breathless when I told him I was free next weekend. He just winked and said, "good." Then he walked me to my car.

Oh boy. He's a cocky you-know-what but it's pretty sexy. He gives me butterflies and it's definitely been a long time since I had any of those. Anyway, I've now gone from writing him off to looking forward to getting to know him. How quickly things change.

Give the man a chance. Not that you need another reason, but my boyfriend, the man I love, is nothing like the man I expected I would fall in love with...a lot of little reasons (and at least one semi-big one) why I thought this wouldn't work. But I gave him a chance. And, six months later, it's working. Not a huge amount of time, but, hey, still a success story of sorts.

Take the sign. Give the man a shot...you never know!

Yes. Ok. So that's out of my system now. I'm glad you are giving him a chance....I CANNOT WAIT FOR NEXT MONDAY'S POST!

Sarah: Not to worry, I'm giving him a chance.

Ruby: You are so funny but I know just how you feel. I absolutely cannot wait for this weekend. It's been a long time since I've anticipated something so much.

Sarah: Yes, InshaAllah everything is going to work out fabulously.

Salaams,

AHHHHHHH!!! HEe hee hee (girly shrieks of giddiness) MASHA ALLAH. Yay yay yay. Glad that is changing.

I don't even know what else to say! I'm all excited for you. Funny how things happen, right?

This whole encounter just doesn't sound very halal to me.

IS: Hey, maybe your turn is coming up. As for Monday, if he delivers, I'll deliver.

Haleem: Thank you.

TT: I'm excited for me, too! It's funny how things change, just like that.

Is that a sarcasm ? If not, how "halal" is used in this context ?

Anonymous said...

No, it wasn't sarcasm. And the term 'halal' is being used as the definition dictates: what is permissible, or not forbidden in our religion.

The entire encounter between the girl and this (non- mahram) marine is inappropriate because it sounds as though they were flirting with each other and Islam does not allow such casual interaction between an unmarried man and woman.

And it also sounds as if they are going on a date. Do I really need to comment on that?

Wa Allahu alim.

I'm so very excited for you!! (I had a mental version of Ruby's reaction while reading it lol) and I do have to swoon a little myself because that type of attitude is hot...lucky girl. Or rather, he's a lucky, lucky guy ;)

So if you get married, what will happen to this blog?

Atifa said...

Anon-As for halal and haram, it depends on the opinion you follow. Many hold the opinion that if you're in a public place and the intensions are marriage, then what happened here falls under the permissible. What is impermissible if for two to be alone and there weren’t alone. Some believe private conversation to be alone, but again that depends on the opinion you follow.

Personally I’m not a fan of this opinion because I don’t see the difference btw it and dating. Either way, if it’s okyed by some scholars, who am I to disagree with them?

As for the flirting and such, he who has not sinned shall cast the first stone.

For the date, we dunno if she’ll take a chaperone or not…always assume the best about your br/sr.

Good Lord. This has become a bit of a hot topic.

AKA: He is the lucky one. ;)

Atifa: If I get married, I'll still blog. I'm just going to have to change the name. Also, thanks for sticking up for me.

Now for all this Anonymous nonsense. I have a bit to say with regard to that so later, when I'm not so tired, this will be an entire post.

Stay tuned.

It's haram to declare something haram if it's not really haram and the burden of proof is on the person making the assertion. And the first hadith of bukhari states "Every action is judged based on intention."

Good luck, single muslimah.

I see both sides of the arguement. Since the intention is for marriage and they are meeting at a public place, inshaAllah this is permissable.
But the "hey gorgeous" flirting part is a bit....risque. Allahu 'alim.
Also, (correct me if I'm wrong), but I have read that a Muslim is forbidden to work for a non-Muslim army that is fighting fellow Muslims
